L. Roper Shamhart
The Ven. L. Roper Shamhart, Archdeacon for Multicultural Ministries in the Diocese of Long Island and formerly Archdeacon of Queens, has been a priest for 45 years, serving one Parish for 30 years as Rector. Retired, he is still active as a non-stipendiary Archdeacon. He used the "Lay Readers' Sermons" (precursor of "Selected Sermons") for about 3 years in the mid to late 1940's while serving small congregations in the Diocese of Southwestern Virginia, before Seminary.
