The National Council of Churches hosted its annual Christian Unity Gathering in October. Taking place in Nashville for the second year in a row, the gathering featured the theme, “Equitable Futures: Paving the Way for Environmental and Economic Justice.” Speakers included the Rev. Carol Divine, faith director for Blessed Tomorrow, the Rev. Teresa Fry Brown of Candler School of Theology at Emory University, and LaToya Myles of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, among many others. All speakers and preachers invited participants into new visions and programs for an eco-justice infused with ecumenical energy and renewed faith. The Friendship Press team also announced the publication of its new book, “Confronting Racism and White Supremacy in the U.S.,” a collection of essays which originated at the Faith and Order Table of the National Council of Churches.

Preparation is now underway for the 75th Anniversary Celebration at next year’s gathering, which will be held in Boston, Massachusetts, and coincides with the 1700th anniversary of the first Council of Nicaea.
